Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking active Power Industry projects with a combined value approaching $6 trillion across the world, ranging from capital projects in the early planning stage to those that have nearly completed construction, as well as thousands of planned maintenance projects. The projects range in scope from multibillion-dollar nuclear and hydropower projects to routine maintenance and inspection at existing plants.
On a global basis, coal-fired projects top all other fuel types in terms of value. Planned coal-fired projects in China and India alone represent a combined $1 trillion in potential spending. Amongst the largest coal-fired projects currently under construction are two $10.5 billion plants in South Africa that are planned to be completed in the next two to three years, bringing approximately 9,600 megawatts (MW) of power to the country in an effort to help prevent load shedding.
Hydropower and wind remain the second- and third- fuels in terms overall global project value, largely because of several large-scale hydro and offshore projects throughout the world. While natural gas-fired projects are strong throughout the world, the U.S. remains the global leader for these projects as developers seek to take advantage of abundant and cheap shale gas, while meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Nuclear remains a strong contender throughout much of the world, including Europe, where more than $270 billion of nuclear projects are under consideration, led by the U.K.
On June 3, Industrial Info will be presenting a complimentary webinar on the global Power Industry, where we will focus on global spending activity and market trends, with special emphasis on what's happening in 2015 and 2016. Join us as we explore global Power Industry trends and seek to answer questions, including:
