A rail project in Jamaica, Long Island, is among the state's highest-value projects. In 2019, contractors began work to add a third track along the Main Line corridor between the Floral Park and Hicksville train stations. The project entails laying 9.8 miles of track, eliminating seven grade crossings, and performing upgrades to stations and railroad infrastructure to improve service. The $2 billion project is expected to be completed later this year. According to a Long Island website, "The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network." The work includes several related side projects, such as construction of parking garages and retaining walls, and improvements to rail bridges. Few U.S. states are untouched by Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) nationwide buildout of its network of fulfillment centers and delivery stations. The company is underway with construction of a $500 million-plus fulfillment center in Gates, New York, on the western outskirts of Rochester. Layton Construction Company (Sandy, Utah) is providing general contracting services on the 2.6 million-square-foot facility, which will help expand Amazon's regional fulfillment and distribution operations. The facility, construction of which kicked off last year, is planned to go into operation later this year. Subscribers can click here for the report.
Most people are aware that a global shortage of semiconductors is causing problems in the automotive, electronics and other sectors. But even before the shortage, ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) (Phoenix, Arizona) purchased an existing semiconductor plant in 2019 in Hopewell Junction, New York, with an aim to renovate and expand it. The work will create the company's first 300-millimeter chip manufacturing facility. The renovation work involves installing new tooling and production equipment and performing structural modifications to the facility. The work kicked off early last year and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Subscribers can click here for the project report.
Outside of Industrial Manufacturing, the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry edges out the Power Industry for second place in terms of project value. Such projects include Taconic Partners LLC's (New York, New York) renovation of a brownfield site to create a life science facility in New York City. An existing eight-story building is being completely renovated to LEED-Platinum standards, including a state-of-the-art, purpose-built laboratory complex. Construction kicked off last summer and is expected to be completed in late 2023. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharma-Biotech Project Database can click here for the project report.
Rounding out the top three positions in terms of project value is the Power Industry, which includes several wind, solar and transmission projects. Wind projects under construction include the Baron Winds Windfarm in Hornell, western New York. Plant parent RWE AG (Essen, Germany) is installing 32 turbines to achieve a nameplate generating capacity of 121.6 megawatts (MW). The Wesson Group LLC (Johnstown, New York) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on the project, which kicked off last year and is expected to wrap up later this year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Power Project Database can click here for the detailed report.
Other wind projects include Invenergy's (Chicago, Illinois) Number Three Windfarm in Harris County, where construction is wrapping up. The project includes 27 turbines with a generating capacity of 103.2 MW. The Wesson Group also is providing EPC services on the project. Construction began last year and closed for the winter season, picking up again when the weather became milder. Subscribers can click here to access the project report.
