Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Invenergy (Chicago, Illinois) said yesterday it has completed the Number Three Wind project in New York State. The power-generation company continues to develop and expand its renewables portfolio, and Industrial Info is tracking related projects.

The Number Three Windfarm, located Lewis County, will utilize a total of 27 wind turbine generators from both Vestas Wind Systems A/S (Aarhus, Denmark) and General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) to generate about 103 megawatts (MW). Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for a detailed project report.

Number Three is the first renewable-generation asset to be brought online as part of the Clean Path NY program, which is a public-private collaboration among project developers Invenergy, energyRe (New York, New York) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA).

According to a press release, "Clean Path NY combines 175 miles of new state-of-the-art transmission with over 2,000 MW of new wind assets, including Number Three Wind, and 1,800 MW of new solar assets."

Although specific wind and solar projects are not listed on the Clean Path NY website, Industrial Info is tracking the transmission line project, which would originate at the Fraser Substation in Delaware County and terminate at the Rainey Substation in Queens. Pending all required public permits and approvals, construction is expected to begin in 2024; the transmission line is planned to be operational in 2027. "As we look to 2030, we will continue to prioritize and accelerate the development and construction of visionary clean energy infrastructure projects--like Number Three Wind and Clean Path NY--in the pursuit of a sustainable, zero-emission future," said Mick Baird, executive vice president of North American development for Invenergy.

A focal point of Invenergy's solar development is the Samson PV Solar Energy Center in Cunningham, Texas, northeast of Dallas, which is being developed in five phases for a total capital investment value of $1.6 billion. It entails the construction of two separate facilities with a combined capacity of 1,310 MW: Samson Solar (three phases totaling 700 MW of solar power) and Delilah Solar (two phases totaling 610 MW). Kiewit Corporation (Lenexa, Kansas) is providing engineering, procurement and construction services.

Construction on the first two Samson phases wrapped up in January and February, respectively, and are operational. The $325 million third phase at Samson Solar is expected to wrap up in June, the $360 million first phase at Delilah by the end of the year, and the $310 million second phase at Delilah in March 2024. Also underway is the construction of the $400 million Fairbanks solar plant in Indiana, which will utilize photovoltaic (PV) solar modules to provide 250 MW of solar generation. Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Cupertino Electric Incorporated (San Jose, California) began construction in March, and the completion is expected in March 2025. Invenergy also is working to expand its renewables portfolio, and in February, the company announced the Invenergy-led consortium IRG Acquisition Holdings (IRG) (Los Angeles, California) had entered into an agreement with American Electric Power (NASDAQ:AEP) (AEP) (Columbus, Ohio) to acquire AEP's 1,365-MW unregulated, contracted renewables portfolio for an enterprise value of $1.5 billion, including project debt.

Invenergy said the portfolio includes 14 projects in 11 states and comprises 1,200 MW of wind generation and 165 MW of solar projects but did not mention any specific projects. The buying consortium, IRG, is a partnership owned by Invenergy, Canadian investment group CDPQ (Quebec City) and funds managed by Blackstone Infrastructure Partners--a unit of Blackstone Incorporated (NYSE:BX) (New York, New York).
