Australian rare earth miner Lynas Corporation failed to obtain additional lanthanide concentrate capacity in its Lynas Advanced Material Plant (LAMP) in Malaysia as government regulators ruled to maintain the facility's current processing limit. The Malaysian government also issued additional requirements to Lynas, the only major rare earth producer outside China, in order to reconsider its request for a capacity increase and new processing application. Due to the operational challenges in the country, Lynas is currently seeking opportunities to relocate its upstream solvent extraction processing and expects to move its concentrate processing plant in Western Australia by 2021 - 2022.
