The Peruvian government has extended its COVID-19 lockdown and state of emergency until June 30, due to a rise in cases. But as industry restrictions are being lifted, mining companies are restarting operations.
Teck Resources has resumed operations at the Antamina Mine. Mining activities at Antamina were suspended April 13 to combat the spread of COVID-19. A reduced operating workforce has been mobilized and will start at roughly 80% capacity, with a gradual ramp-up to full production expected in the third quarter.
Votorantim Metais has resumed operations at its Cajamarquilla Zinc Refinery.
The mining sector will be reactivated in three phases: the first applies to large-scale mining, the second to medium-sized operations and the third to small-scale mining. Industrial Info is tracking 62 active mining operations in Peru. Click here for a list and see map below.
