Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking nearly $6 billion worth of projects that are under construction in New Mexico. More than 75% of the value of these projects comes under the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, thanks in part to a large semiconductor-manufacturing complex upgrade.
Easily the largest industrial project under construction in the state is Intel Corporation's (NASDAQ:INTC) (Santa Clara, California) upgrade of its computer chip-manufacturing facility in Rio Rancho. In addition to upgrading and modernizing facilities, new production and assembly lines will be installed along with supporting systems to convert the facility into the hub for the manufacture of Intel's new Foveros chips, which will feature 3-D packaging technology. According to local news media, the project represents the single-largest investment in the Rio Rancho facility since Intel began operating there in 1980. Also within the technology sector are expansions at Facebook parent Meta Platforms Incorporated's (NASDAQ:META) (Menlo Park, California) data center campus in Los Lunas. According to Industrial Info's GMI Project Database, three buildings of approximately 500,000 square feet are under construction at the facility. Construction on the first of these kicked off in 2020, followed by the other two in 2021 and 2022. All three buildings are expected to be completed this year. Also in Los Lunas and related to computing is e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) construction of a grassroot distribution center. Construction on the 1.5 million+-square-foot facility kicked off in late 2021, with Ryan Companies US Incorporated (Minneapolis, Minnesota) providing general contracting services. The fulfillment center is expected to begin operations later this year. Subscribers can click here for more details.
After the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, the Power Industry has the highest overall value of projects under construction, thanks to the establishment of several solar farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Among these undertakings is the Jicarilla Apache Nation Power Authority's (Dulce, New Mexico) construction of a 50-megawatt (MW) solar farm and 20-MW BESS near Dulce. Construction kicked off in the first half of 2022 and is expected to be completed in the coming months. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Power Project Database can click here for the full report.
Other smaller projects underway in New Mexico include pizza restaurant chain Dion's' (Albuquerque) conversion of a brownfield building into a food production facility to manufacture salad dressings, pizza sauce and bakery products. Construction kicked off in early 2022 and is nearing completion. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for more details.
