Oil & Gas to Benefit from Texas Approval of New High Voltage Transmission Lines

May 13, 2025--Written by Jesse Broehl for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) on April 24 approved a plan to build the first extra-high-voltage transmission lines for the Permian Basin. The overall Strategic Transmission Expansion Plan (STEP) was approved in October 2024. The decision allowed for the more efficient 765-kilovolt (kV) lines over the standard 345-kilovolt lines currently in use throughout the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid.
