Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pipeline operator Enbridge Incorporated (NYSE:ENB) (Calgary, Alberta) this week completed the sale of its stake in three joint venture companies to Pembina Pipeline Corporation (NYSE:PBA) (Calgary, Alberta).
The C$3.1 billion (US$2.3 billion) sale involves Enbridge's 50% stake in Alliance Pipeline, its 42.7% stake in Aux Sable and its 50% interest in NRGreen. The Alliance Pipeline delivers natural gas liquids (NGLs) from northwest Alberta and the Bakken region to the Chicago area in Illinois, while Aux Sable operates NGL extraction and fractionation facilities in the U.S. and Canada, significantly adding to Pembina's midstream assets. NRGreen operates waste heat-recovery facilities along the Alliance Pipeline route.
Along with Pembina's new ownership come inherited projects, many critical to the functioning and profit to be drawn from the purchased assets. Industrial Info is tracking more than 15 projects involving Pembina's new acquisitions, the most significant of these involving a capacity expansion on the Alliance Pipeline, entailing construction of new compressor stations in the U.S. and Canada. In the coming months, construction is expected to begin on grassroot compressor stations near:
Hot gas path inspections are critical maintenance events that assess the section of a turbine where combustion occurs and the hottest gases flow. During the inspection, technicians inspect and assess the condition of critical components in the combustion chamber, turbine nozzles and turbine blades. Industrial Info is tracking seven planned hot gas inspections, occurring in 2024 and 2025, at compressor stations along Alliance's route. North Dakota will see most of these, with three inspections planned next year at compressor stations near:
Pembina also inherits maintenance projects from Aux Sable, such as the turnaround planned at the company's 60 million-cubic-foot-per-day natural gas processing and fractionation plant near Taylor, British Columbia, which is planned for this summer. Subscribers can learn more about the turnaround by viewing the project report.
The projects already join more than US$5 billion of other active Pembina projects being tracked by Industrial Info. The most significant of these is the expansion of the Peace Pipeline, which will enable segregated service for ethane-heavy and propane-heavy NGL mixes. In addition to new compressor stations, the laying of 65-mile and 85-mile sections of grassroot pipeline to carry 160,000 barrels per day of NGLs within Alberta is nearing completion. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project reports on Phase VIII and Phase IX of construction.
Pembina's most ambitious project is a planned blue hydrogen and ammonia plant with a carbon-capture and storage unit in Redwater, Alberta. The project remains in the early planning stage but, as envisioned, would produce more than 2 million cubic feet of day of blue hydrogen and 1 million metric tons per year of blue ammonia for export to Japan. The project not only entails construction of the plant itself, but also the debrining of area salt caverns to be used for carbon storage. The operation could potentially begin functioning in 2027.
