Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Petrobras' (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro) floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) structure Almirante Tamandare, which can produce 225,000 barrels of oil per day (BBL/d) and process 12 million cubic meters of gas per day, has begun production in Brazil's Buzios oilfield. The platform will be connected to 15 oil, gas and water wells.
The startup of the new FPSO is expected to boost the Buzios Field's production to 1 million BBL/d of oil by the second half of this year. Buzios is the world's largest deepwater field and the second-largest producing asset in Brazil. Throughout last year, the Buzios Field had an output of 639,000 BBL/d.
Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Oil & Gas Production Plant and Project databases can learn more from a detailed plant profile and can click here for a list of detailed reports for projects related to Almirante Tamandare.
Petrobras plans to further increase production from the pre-salt field to 2 million BBL/d by the end of this decade. This will be achieved through the development of another five FPSOs destined for the Buzios Field.
P-78, with a capacity of 180,000 BBL/d, is the first platform expected to be deployed this year after Tamandare. Next year, P-79 should boost production by 180,000 BBL/d. Platforms P-80, P82, and P-83, each with a capacity of 225,000 BBL/d, are expected to be deployed to Buzios by 2027.
Altogether, Industrial Info is tracking more than US$29 billion worth of active and proposed projects in the Buzios Field. Subscribers can click here for a full list of detailed project reports.
Petrobras is also studying the possibility of developing the Buzios 12 project, another production area within the offshore block to increase its output.
On February 14, the Brazilian company announced another discovery in the Buzios Field, reaffirming the asset's potential.
The Buzios Field is owned by a consortium led by Petrobras with 88.98% of the shares, followed by CNOCC and CNPC with 7.34% and 3.67%, respectively.
