Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $2.39 billion in Power Industry projects that are planned to start in the Rocky Mountains market region from July through September. The region includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. The projects cover a range of sectors, including wind, solar, and transmission and distribution (T&D). Arizona, with 25 planned projects valued at more than $674 million, leads the region in terms of both project count and value.
Click on the image at right for a breakdown by state of planned third-quarter power project starts in the Rocky Mountains region.
Wyoming is host to one of the largest planned project starts. Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois) will construct a 161-megawatt (MW) windfarm in Uinta County, in the southwest corner of the state. The facility will use 44 General Electric (NYSE:GE) wind turbine generators. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Dallas, Texas) is performing design engineering. The project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $325 million, is planned to be completed by the end of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Also in Wyoming, a repowering project is planned for an existing windfarm. PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon) will repower its 99-MW High Plains Windfarm near Rock River by replacing nacelles and rotors to the facility's 66 General Electric turbines. Construction is set to begin this summer and be completed by the end of the year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Several small solar projects also are planned to kick off in the region in the upcoming quarter. Among them is NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) photovoltaic solar farm near Calhan, Colorado, about 35 miles northeast of Colorado Springs. The 35-MW facility will be constructed on a 270-acre site and will use Jinko solar panels on a single-axis tracking system. M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). The project is expected to kick off this summer and be completed by the end of the year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Wellington, Colorado, GCL New Energy Incorporated (San Ramon, California) will construct the Rawhide solar facility project, which will include a 20-MW solar farm and 2-MW battery energy storage system. DEPCOM Power Incorporated (Scottsdale, Arizona) is providing EPC. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
T&D projects also are prevalent in the region's upcoming project activity. Among the largest of these is the Southline Transmission Project in Arizona and New Mexico. For more on this, see May 30, 2019, article - U.S. to See $6.2 Billion in Transmission, Distribution Kickoffs this Summer. Other smaller projects include UNS Energy Corporation's (Tucson, Arizona) Nogales DC Tie-in Project in Arizona. The project includes grassroot construction and upgrades to several substations and transmission lines. The projects have a combined TIV of $81 million. Construction is expected to take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on:
