South Africa Seeks to Yield Biofuel from Sugar

NEW DELHI--October 12, 2021--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Out of South Africa's yearly 2.1 million tons of sugar production, around 800,000 tons currently are being exported at a loss, according to the South African Sugar Association (SASA). To combat these losses, the industry is under negotiations with the government, following the authorization of the "Sugar Master Plan," seeking subsidies for converting more than a third of their annual yield into biofuel. The master plan was agreed to by the government, farmers, industrial users and retailers, in response to a decline in the country's sugar industry.
