Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ADA-ES (NASDAQ:ADES) (Littleton, Colorado) has partnered with Energy Capital Partners to build four activated carbon grassroot plants. Each plant will operate under a different company name and will be adjacent to a coal mine, from which it will receive its feedstock. The first of the four, Crowfoot Supply Company LLC in Natchitoches, Louisiana, became operational in the second quarter of 2009.
Currently, the second plant, Red River Environmental Products LLC, which is in Coushatta, Louisiana, is expecting its first activated carbon line to begin manufacturing in the second quarter of 2010. The completion of the project will be almost a year and a half after construction began. BE&K (Birmingham, Alabama) a subsidiary of KBR Incorporated (NYSE:KBR) (Houston, Texas), provided the engineering and construction services. A second activated carbon line is to be constructed at the site that will allow the plant to produce about 150 million pounds per year of activated carbon, with construction tentatively set for early 2011.
After the completion of Red River's second line, plans to begin construction for the next grassroot plant, called Underwood Environmental Products LLC, is expected to begin construction by the end of 2011 in Underwood, North Dakota. The last of the new plants will be the Morton Environmental Products LLC in Bowman, North Dakota. Both plants in North Dakota are expected to have two lines of activated carbon, constructed in two phases.
