Adhunik Group Plans Integrated Steel, Cement, Power Complex
Adhunik Group (Kolkata, West Bengal) plans to construct an integrated cement, steel and power complex in Raghunathpur in the Purlia district of West Bengal.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Adhunik Group (Kolkata, West Bengal) plans to construct an integrated cement, steel and power complex in Raghunathpur in the Purlia district of West Bengal. The complex will have a cement plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per year, a steel mill with a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per year, and a 1,100-megawatt (MW) thermal power plant.
The total investment for the project is estimated to be $1.6 billion. The company requires 2,400 acres of land to construct the three plants. The complex will generate employment for 5,000 people.
As per the latest information, the cement plant will be based on dry cement manufacturing technology. The company will use fly ash from the power plant and slag from the steel mill as an additive in the cement. The steel mill will manufacture alloys in addition to specialty and construction steels. The power plant will be a coal-fired plant, which will be used as a captive power plant and as an independent power producer for the local grid.
The project is in the early stages of planning, and Adhunik is accepting bids to hire an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm. Construction is expected to kick off by June of this year, and the expected completion date of the project is November 2014.
The company's flagship company, Adhunik Metaliks Limited, has emerged as one of the fastest growing alloy, specialty and construction steel manufacturing companies in the country, with a significant presence in the mining and power sectors through its subsidiaries Adhunik Power & Natural Resources Limited, and Orissa Manganese & Minerals Limited.
The company has taken measures to provide a better working environment for its employees. The company has made substantial capital investments to ensure proper treatment of generated effluents to meet all relevant regulatory requirements. It has also reduced pollution through the installation of emissions-reducing technology on processing equipment.
Adhunik has invested in an electrostatic dust-extraction mechanism at its direct reduced iron (DRI) kilns to separate dust from flue gases. There will be electrostatic precipitators in the DRI kilns, captive power plants and sinter plants. The company will use waste heat from the blast furnaces and DRI kilns in Unit 1 of the captive power plant. Coke oven gases will be used in the rolling mills for reheating billets. Adhunik has invested in a coal washery from which the solid waste will be reused in Unit 2 of the captive power plant.
The company has set itself a target of zero emissions by using dust particles from the electrostatic precipitator in the blast furnace at the sinter plant. Adhunik intends to achieve zero-discharge by adopting different measures like through the utilization of waste products.
