A&E Contractor Awarded for $47 Million Nissan Forging Expansion in Tennessee

Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation (Smyrna, Tennessee), a Subsidiary of Nissan Motor Company, Limited (NYSE:NSANY )(Tokyo, Japan), has selected Albert Kahn Associates Incorporated (Detroit, Michigan) to provide architectural and engineering services for a $47.3 million expansion of its forging plant in Decherd, Tennessee.

Construction is anticipated to start in April of 2005, with completion expected in the early Spring 2006. Project design and development plans are currently underway, and bids are out for a general contractor, which should be awarded by January of 2005. Construction plans include a 60,000 square foot addition to the one-million-unit-per-year crankshaft forging operation and will include the installation of a 6,500-ton forging press, as well as other production equipment.

Nissan is considered to be the tenth largest private employer and is a subsidiary of Nissan North America Incorporated headquartered in Gardena, California. Nissan North America Incorporated's parent company is Nissan Motor Company, Limited, which is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Nissan Motor is considered to be Japan's #2 auto manufacturer after Toyota and ahead of Honda. Nissan's models include the Maxima and Sentra cars, Altima, and Infiniti upscale sedans, Frontier pickups, the 350Z sports car, and Xterra and Pathfinder SUV's.
