Alabama Could Be Home to $2.5 Billion in Industrial Project Construction in 2005

The Oil & Gas Terminals Industry jumps in the lead with $780 million in planned expenditures - Includes Graph!

The state of Alabama could be home to industrial construction projects exceeding $2.5 billion, if all goes according to industrial development plans. Going into 2005, Industrialinfo.com is tracking 117 major industrial capital and maintenance projects scheduled to kick off during 2005, as part of its North American Industrial Database.

The Oil & Gas Terminals Industry jumps in the lead with $780 million in planned expenditures. This is mainly due to plans for a major LNG receiving terminal on Dauphin Island, Alabama. The $650 million project is being developed by Compass Port LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips (NYSE:CoP) (Houston, Texas).

The Industrial Manufacturing Industry has 35 projects planned for 2005, representing $706 million. This includes a $250 million expansion for Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America (Erlanger, Kentucky). A general contractor is expected to be selected by February 2005 for the 400,000 square foot building addition, which will house a new V-8 production line.

The Power Industry is the third largest industry in planned project expenditures for Alabama, with $513 million across 24 separate projects. One of the other large projects scheduled to begin construction in 2005 is a SO2 emissions reduction project at the William Crawford Gorgas Power Station, located in Parrish, Alabama.

The Chemical Processing Industry is also well represented in Alabama in 2005, with 22 projects worth $102 million.
