Amalgamated Sugar Moves Forward With Expansion Projects at Idaho Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC, which is a unit of grower-owned cooperative Snake River Sugar Company (Boise, Idaho), is proceeding with two expansion projects at the company's beet sugar refinery in Paul, Idaho.

Amalgamated Sugar began construction last month on a building that will contain two new vertical crystallizers, each with a diameter of 15 feet and more than 100 feet in height. On the second project, the company has placed an order for the delivery of a new lime kiln, and construction will begin early next year. Both projects are on schedule to be completed by the end of next year.

Amalgamated Sugar's investment in both projects is approximately $25 million.

The Paul facility is the largest beet sugar factory in the world, capable of processing 19,000 tons per day of sliced beets.
