American Woodmark Corporation Starts Construction on $12 Million Cabinet Assembly Plant in Maryland

American Woodmark Corporation (AWC) (NASDAQ: AMWD) (Winchester, Virginia), the third largest manufacturer of kitchen cabinets in the United States and Canada, has started construction on a $12 million manufacturing plant in Rawlings, Maryland.
Site preparation for the plant, located off Route 220 in the newly developed Barton Business Park covering 150 acres in Allegany County, began in mid-July 2004. The project will involve the construction of a 250,000 square foot manufacturing plant. Completion is slated for December 2004. Initially, 50-70 jobs will be created, with employment rising to 500 jobs in the next five years.
The new plant will assemble wood cabinet components received from other American Woodmark plants. The company expects to start shipping completed cabinets to customers in the Northeast and Midwest regions in early January 2005.
H & M Company, headquartered in Jackson, Tennessee, was awarded the general construction contract for the new plant.
American Woodmark Corporation, headquartered in Winchester, Virginia, supplies cabinetry to the new home construction and remodeling industry. American Woodmark currently has over 5,200 employees at its existing fourteen manufacturing facilities, located in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Canada. In 2003, the company's sales included $667.5 million. American Woodmark manufactures cabinetry under its brand name, as well as under the name Shenandoah Cabinetry and Timberlake brands, and offers more than 150 cabinet lines in a variety of designs, materials, and finishes.
