Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Appalachian Power Company (Columbus, Ohio), part of American Electric Power (AEP) (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus), has proposed the Boone County Improvements Project to improve grid reliability in parts of West Virginia.
Part of a two-phase plan, the project consists of about 19 miles of 138-kilovolt (kV) overhead transmission line starting from the existing Boone Substation and ending at the existing Cabin Creek Substation in Boone and Kanawh counties in West Virginia, replacing aging infrastructure with new technology.
Appalachian Power Company plans to upgrade five substations by replacing transformers and ring buses and installing new 138Kv breakers. The company also will add a new Fields Creek substation. This project is scheduled to start construction in the spring/summer of 2018, with completion at the end of 2020.
The project consists of constructing and clearing right of ways, 138 kV transmission lines, transformer stations, access roads and, tie lines Temporary construction offices and accommodations for construction personnel would be needed during the construction timeframe.
The project is valued at $62 million.
