Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Atel Group (Olten, Switzerland) plans to build two 400-megawatt (MW) natural gas single-shaft combined-cycle power plants in San Severo, Italy, and Bayet, France, for about $760 million. After a bidding process carried out in March 2008, Ansaldo Energia (Genoa, Italy) was awarded turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contracts with Atel's subsidiaries: EnPlus in Italy and 3CB in France. With these two turnkey contracts, Ansaldo Energia and Atel also signed two long-term service agreements worth $1.9 million for planned and unplanned maintenance on gas and steam turbines. The terms of the agreements could change after the stations are commissioned.
Both power plants will be equipped with one 1+1 single-shaft combined-cycle module equipped with a 270 MW V94.3A Siemens-Ansaldo gas-fired turbine, along with an Ansaldo Caldaie heat recovery steam generator, a 130 MW Ansaldo steam turbine and a single Ansaldo generator.
Bayet's combined-cycle unit is the first turnkey project to be built in France by Ansaldo Energia. The French project recently obtained construction permits after a public survey and is anticipating site preparation to begin in July 2008 and concrete-infrastructure work to begin in September 2008.
Permits for the San Severo project were granted in December 2002 to EnPlus, a joint venture formed by Atel Energia (60%), Renova subsidiary Avelar Energy (30%) and Italy's En&En (10%). Preparations for construction began in May 2007 and completion is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.
