Austria's Schwechat Refinery Plans Petrochemical Turnaround for 2011

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--OMV AG (WBAG:OMV) (Vienna, Austria) has scheduled a maintenance shutdown for the petrochemical area of the 200,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Schwechat Refinery in Austria's northeastern state of Lower Austria.

The planned turnaround is scheduled for the second quarter of 2011 and is expected to last 40 non-production days. Work will be performed in units such as the ethylene unit, the methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE) unit, the cyclohexane unit, the polypropylene unit, the benzene stripper unit, the ethyl-tert-butyl-ether (ETBE) unit, and the polyethylene plant.

The other areas of the refinery had major inspections in May of this year and are expected to remain online throughout 2011.

After this shutdown, the petrochemical area of the refinery should operate normally until the next major area shutdown, which is scheduled for 2017. Routine general area maintenance is performed every six years to help achieve optimum performance in all processes.
