BAE Systems Incorporated Constructing $58 Million Engineering and Design Facility in Michigan

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--BAE Systems Incorporated (Rockville, Maryland), a private subsidiary of BAE Systems plc (LSE:BA) (Farnborough, England), an aerospace and defense contractor, has started construction of a $58 million engineering and design facility at the former TRW Building in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Construction consists of demolishing the existing building, which is located on 81 acres of land, and constructing a new 198,000-square-foot building that will include a four-story, 150,000-square-foot building and a 50,000-square-foot research and development center for program management, engineering and design services. Approximately 460 new jobs will be created. Purchase of the land took place in December 2008, and demolition work started in February 2009. Groundbreaking and land clearing is currently under way, and building construction is anticipated to begin by December of this year. Overall completion is slated for 2011.

Walbridge Aldinger (Detroit, Michigan) was selected to provide general construction services for the new facility.
