Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ball Corporation (NYSE:BLL) (Broomfield, Colorado), a provider of metal packaging for beverages, foods and household products, has announced plans to close the company's beverage can plant in Torrance, California.
Ball plans to close the existing plant by the end of September, resulting in the loss of 120 jobs. One of the company's production lines, which makes 12-ounce cans, will be relocated to the company's plant in Whitby, Ontario, and other equipment will go to other plants. The company stated that the closure is a way to decrease its overall installed beverage can capacity in North America while better aligning its manufacturing footprint to meet changing customer demand. The closure will enable the company to increase operational efficiencies at existing plants.
Ball Corporation consists of approximately 14,500 employees in more than 90 locations worldwide.
