BASF Begins Construction of New Resins Unit in Michigan
The very unique part of this project is that the unit will actually be spread across seven different production floors of the existing plant operations

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). BASF (LSE: UK:BFA) (Frankfurt, Germany) has begun construction for the addition of a new amino resin production unit to produce Luwipal at its plant site located in Wyandotte, Michigan (Plant 1012177). Construction for the new resin unit began in January and consists partly of condensers, evaporators, and other equipment being relocated from an idle production unit located at their plant site at Geismar, Louisiana (Plant 1004990).
The very unique part of this project is that the unit will actually be spread across seven different production floors of the existing plant operations in Wyandotte. As part of BASF's ongoing "Site Optimization" program, significant portions of the new unit are made up of existing pieces of equipment already located in the plant. The unit's design will allow much of the existing equipment to remain in its original location.
The Wyandotte site is considered to be a part of BASF's Engineering Plastics business group although it also produces specialty chemicals and certain plastic parts used in the manufacture of bumpers that they supply directly to automotive producers making them a Tier I supplier.
