Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Community-based energy development (C-BED) projects have grown over the years in the renewable energy market, and are proving to be a viable way for developers to increase their efforts in the wind industry. These projects allow local owners to maintain financial benefits and keep them within their communities, including everything from construction to cost per kilowatt-hour (KWh).
Beebe Community Wind Farm LLC (Ithaca, Michigan), with Nordex USA Incorporated (Chicago, Illinois) and Exelon Wind LLC (West Des Moines, Iowa), has added 81.6 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to the Great Lakes region after completing a new wind project in Gratiot County, Michigan.
Construction for the project began in the summer of 2012 and was completed in the fall. Full commercial operation of the project was achieved earlier this month. The windfarm is equipped with 34 Nordex USA Incorporated N117/2400-model wind turbines of 2.4 MW each. The new wind turbines are the company's latest model, and the new facility is the first to feature them in the U.S. Two additional phases to the facility are scheduled to be constructed at the windfarm in 2013 and 2014, respectfully.
White Construction Incorporated (Clinton, Indiana) acted as the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contractor throughout the duration of the project.
