Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Belgian energy firm Electrabel SA (Brussels, Belgium) and its Netherlands energy subsidiary Electrabel Nederland NV (Zwolle, Netherlands) plan to construct an 800-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in the Port of Rotterdam in the southern region of the Netherlands. The engineering and balance-of-plant contract for the power project was awarded to Hitachi Limited (NYSE:HIT) (Tokyo), an electric power and energy systems manufacturing firm, and its subsidiary company Hitachi Power Europe GmbH (Oberhausen, Germany). The contract will cover the delivery and engineering of all key power plant components, as well as all of the environmental control systems.
The 800-MW project will consist of two pulverized coal-fired supercritical boilers, which will produce superheated steam that will drive two 400-MW steam-turbine generator sets. The coal-fired plant will be equipped with a flue gas cleaning, dust removal and desulfurization system, as well as the latest emissions monitoring and control technology available in the market. The project is expected to start civil-site construction in the first quarter of 2008 with a completion/commissioning date set for the first or second quarter of 2012.
Electrabel SA is part of the French energy and environmental conglomerate SUEZ (Paris) and is Belgium's top utility holding company. It has a European generating capacity of more than 29,000 MW and is also one of the only companies present in all European energy markets where it is developing its trading activities.
