Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) (Mumbai, India) has put on hold the Bottom Upgradation project for its Mumbai Refinery, as a result of the company's ongoing privatization plans. BPCL expects to resume the project after the privatization is complete.

The detailed design of the $710 million project was nearing completion and is part of BPCL's plans to upgrade and diversify into petrochemical products.

The project includes recovery units, treating units, amine regeneration units, sulfur recovery units and other support units to facilitate the petrochemical units planned in Rasayani, a town located in Maharashtra, 31 miles away from the Mumbai Refinery.
