The rebuilding of a naval jetty in British Columbia is among the largest projects planned to kick off in Canada in the upcoming quarter. At Jetty B of the dockyard in Esquimalt, engineering and construction contractor Pomerleau Incorporated (Montreal, Quebec) will improve the ship-docking infrastructure for the berthing of Canada's modern frigates and new vessels of the Royal Canadian Navy. The project involves construction of a 274-meter-long jetty with a 26-meter-wide deck. Construction is set to begin before the end of the year, taking about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
The automotive sector also features in the country's planned activity. General Motors Company (NYSE:GE) (Detroit, Michigan) will retool its assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario. The 5.1 million-square-foot plant currently assembles Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, but will be retooled to convert from vehicle assembly to stamping and the manufacture of components subassemblies. In addition, an autonomous vehicles test track will be constructed. The $126 million project is expected to be completed in mid-2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Michelin Tire Corporation (Greenville, South Carolina) plans to begin an equipment addition and plant renovation project at its winter tire manufacturing plant in Westville, Nova Scotia. The project entails renovating the mixer building and installing new mixer line process equipment to improve processing for semi-finished materials production. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Ontario, rail operator Metrolinx (Toronto, Ontario) is preparing to launch a couple of upcoming light rail projects. A grassroot transit line is being planned for the Mississauga area that entails constructing 12 miles of new track from a station just north Lake Ontario to just inside Brampton. The line will include 22 stations. AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) is the project engineer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Toronto, Metrolinx is gearing up for a rail corridor extension, which includes constructing 20 miles of double track, using 10 existing stations and constructing four new ones. Mott Macdonald (Toronto) is the engineer on the $1.4 billion project. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Quebec, Indian company Solargise India Pvt Limited (Karnataka) has selected a site for a planned solar panel manufacturing plant in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, about 50 miles southwest of Montreal. The project is the first part of planned two-phase project. Three lines to construct solar modules, cells and wafers are planned to be commissioned by fourth-quarter 2020 to produce polysilicon ingots, wafers and plastic-free glass panels. The project has an estimated total investment value of $950 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
