Cementos Lima to Expand Atocongo Cement Plant in Peru

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cementos Lima SA (Lima, Peru) is moving forward with a $140 million expansion project at the Atocongo Cement Plant. The facility, along with a 100% company-owned limestone mine, is located in the town of Lurin about 30 kilometers south of Lima.

The Atocongo cement plant is equipped with two furnaces: one Krupp, which began operations in early 1970 and one FLSmidth, which has been operational since 1997. The expansion project will modernize the first furnace, increasing its capacity from 3,200 to 7,500 tons per day. Upon conclusion, the Atocongo plant will have its cement production capacity increased to about 6 million tons per year.

ARPL Tecnologia Industrial S.A. (Lima) was awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and management contract for the project. Currently, the company is conducting basic engineering and expects to start construction in the beginning of 2010. Construction is planned to last 18 months, with project completion set for the second quarter of 2001. A constructor will be selected by year's end.

Cementos Lima is the largest cement company in Peru, responsible for 40% of the local market. It is the only clinker exporter in the country.
