Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chevron Corporation's (NYSE:CVX) (San Ramon, California) 220,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Pembroke, Wales, will undergo a series of maintenance turnarounds in 2012 and 2013.
The refinery is divided in three areas: Refining, Cracking and Olefins, and Blending and Shipping. In the first quarter of 2012, the Refining Area, which is sub-divided into Black Oils and White Oils, will shut down for maintenance for approximately 35 days. The turnaround will affect the Crude Unit, the 95,000-BBL/d Vacuum Unit, the 27,000-BBL/d Visbreaker, the 35,000-BBL/d Diesel Hydrotreater 1, the 30,000-BBL/d Diesel Hydrotreater 2, the 35,000-BBL/d Continuous Catalytic Reformer (CCR), and the 55,000-BBL/d Naphtha Hydrotreater, among others.
In the third quarter of 2013 the Cracking and Olefins areas will have their five-year maintenance shutdowns. The turnaround will entail mainly cleaning and inspection and will affect the 90,000-BBL/d Fluid Catalytic Converter, the Ultra-Low-Sulfur Gasoline Hydrotreater, the 32,000-BBL/d Hydrofluoric Alkylation Unit, the Sulfur Recovery Unit and the Amine Recovery Unit, among others.
In 1964, Chevron opened the Pembroke refinery in southwest Wales. The plant, which specializes in processing heavy, lower-quality crudes, is one of Chevron's seven major refineries and boasts one of the world's finest natural harbors. The refinery produces 17 different products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas petrochemical feedstocks. Refined fuels from the plant are distributed throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland and are also exported to international markets, including the United States.
