China Datang Begins Construction on Demonstrative Photovoltaic Power Station in Gansu Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction of the Datang Wuwei Online Photovoltaic Demonstrative Power Station began on April 26, 2008, at the Chengdong Science and Technology Demonstrative Park in Wuwei City of northwestern China's Gansu Province, announced China Datang Corporation (Beijing), the project's owner.

The station is a key project in the sub-program of "Megawatt-Level Online Photovoltaic Power Station System" in the category of advanced energy in the 11th five-year plan's Technology Research and Development Program (the National 863 Program). This program is an undertaking by a consortium jointly established by Beijing Jike Energy New Technology Development Company, Gansu Natural Energy Research Institute (Lanzhou, China) and Sungrow Power Supply Company Limited (Hefei, China). The consortium, along with the government of Wuwei City and China Datang Corporation's Gansu Branch Company (Lanzhou), will be jointly responsible for the project's development.

The project has a total planned capacity of 1 megawatt (MW) to be built in two phases, 0.5 MW in each phase at present. The capacity will be expanded to 5 MW in the future. The project is located at Wuwei City in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province.

As a pilot project in the photovoltaic industry of Gansu, construction of the project will help the province expand into a new field of electric power development. The project will have an important demonstrative meaning for the extension of online photovoltaic power stations in the vast Gobi area, China Datang said.
