Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Flue gas desulfurization work for Units 7 and 8 at the Guodian Jianbi coal-fired power plant, owned by China Guodian Corporation (Beijing), began on April 23, 2008, in eastern China's Jiangsu Province. After the project is complete, the plant's six 330-megawatt (MW) units will be equipped with desulfurization devices as a step toward energy conservation and emissions reduction. Beijing Guodian Longyuan Environment Protection Engineering Company was selected as the general contractor for the project.
The plant was built in 1959. After five phases of construction and capacity expansions, the plant has 12 units with a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW in operation. It is one of the largest power plants in Jiangsu Province. There are plans to build two 1,000 MW units and removing Units 1-6.
In the past four years, the power plant has dismantled and reconstructed the old chemical water system for all six 330 MW units in the plant without impacting the its normal operation. This has allowed the plant to begin the desulfurization project ahead of schedule with completion set for the first quarter of next year.
