China Huaneng to Build Demonstrative Nuclear Power Project with CNNC Energy in Shandong Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Huaneng Shandong Shidaowan Nuclear Power Company Limited (Rongcheng, Shandong province), a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing), has signed an agreement with CNNC Energy Technology Company Limited (Beijing) for the development and manufacture of internal carbon structures for the Shidaowan demonstrative nuclear project located in Rongcheng. CNNC Energy, the project's owner, is a nuclear technology licenser jointly established by China National Nuclear Power Corporation (Beijing), Tsinghua University and Fangda Charcoal New Materials Technology Company Limited (SHA:600516) (Lanzhou, Gansu).

The project is listed as one of the 16 key projects in the country's middle- and long-term science and technology development plans. CNNC Energy will be responsible for supplying the technology for the project. Through this project, Fangda Charcoal will become China's first independent producer of internal carbon structures for nuclear reactors.

The demonstrative nuclear power station will feature a commercialized high-temperature, gas-cooled reactor with independent intellectual property rights. The project will have 3,800-megawatt, high-temperature, gas-cooled reactor-based nuclear power units, and is scheduled to start construction in September 2009 and go into operation by the end of 2013.
