Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--In February 2011, China's overall social power consumption reached 313.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an increase of 15.82% year over year, while the national generation output of power plants with generating capacities of 6 megawatts (MW) or more reached 310.1 billion kWh, an increase of 15.4% year over year, according to the China Electricity Council.

Of this, power consumption in the primary industries (animal husbandry, farming, fisheries, etc.) reached 12.9 billion kWh, an increase of 3.91%. Power consumption in the secondary industries (mining; manufacturing; water, power and gas production, construction) reached 507.3 billion kWh, an increase of 11.41%. Consumption in the tertiary industries (hotels, services, insurance, etc.) reached 85.2 billion kWh, an increase of 15.88%. Power consumption of urban residents was 97.1 billion kWh, an increase of 15.37% year over year.
From January through February 2010, the national generation output of power plants above 6 MW reached 677.3 billion kWh, an increase of 11.7% year over year. Of this, the output of hydropower reached 72.4 billion kWh, an increase of 32.9% year over year. Thermal power plants reached 573.7 billion kWh, an increase of 9.1% year over year. Nuclear power production was 13.6 billion kWh, an increase of 20.4% year over year. Wind power reached 11.3 billion kWh, an increase of 57.7% year over year.
From January through February 2010, the national overall power consumption of industry reached 498.4 billion kWh (accounting for 70.9% of the total), an increase of 11.29% year over year. Of this, light industry and heavy industry increased 6% and 12.5%, respectively, year over year.
As of the end of February 2010, the total installed capacity of power plants with capacities of 6 MW or above in China reached 938.46 gigawatts (GW), an increase of 10.9% year over year. Of this, the installed capacity of hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power and wind power reached 182 GW, 712.1 GW, 10.82 GW and 32.93 GW, respectively, an increase of 10.2%, 9.3%, 19.2% and 66.3% year over year, respectively.
From January through February 2010, the average accumulated utilization hours of power generation equipment in China reached 735 hours, an increase of six hours year over year. Of this, the average utilization hours of hydropower equipment reached 376 hours, up by 55 hours year over year. The average utilization hours of thermal power equipment reached 835 hours, an increase of only one hour from the same period last year.
