Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After almost nine years of planning and two ownership changes, the 600-megawatt (MW) Dell Power Station in Mississippi County, Arkansas, is complete. The natural-gas combined-cycle project was planned by GenPower LLC (Needham, Massachusetts) then sold to TECO Power Services, a subsidiary of TECO Energy (NYSE:TE) (Tampa, Florida) in 2000. TECO Power Services then sold it to Associated Electric Power Corporation (Springfield, Missouri) in 2005.
The plants construction started in 2001 by the National Energy Production Corporation (Bothell, Washington), an Enron subsidiary. When Associated Electric bought the 65% complete plant, it utilized design firm Burns & Roe (Oradell, New Jersey) and TIC (The Industrial Company) (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) to complete the station. The major pieces of equipment that make up the power island are two GE combustion turbine/generators (MS7001FA/PG7241FA), two CMI EPTI LLC/Alborg Industries HRSGs (Pioneer GT8 Duct-Fired) and a GE D11 steam turbine/generator.
The Dell Power Station became commercial on August 23, 2007. Associated Electric Power Corporation has selected Primesouth Incorporated, a subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG) (Columbia, South Carolina), as the station operator.
