Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction recently began on Guodian Changyuan Jingzhou Thermal Power Company Limited's (Jingzhou, Hubei) 600-megawatt (MW) project in central China's Hubei province. The combined heat and power project is the first to be approved by the National Development and Reform Commission to replace small units with large units for energy conservation and emissions reduction. The $353 million project will have two 300 MW coal-fired units and an annual power output of about 3 billion kilowatt-hours.
The new units will replace three small thermal power units at the Guodian Changyuan thermal power plant that have a capacity of 140 MW, as well as 113 small heat-supply boilers. Data show that the project could save 1.1 million metric tons of standard coal and reduce emissions of SO2 by 15,000 tons and flue gas by 14,000 tons every year.
The project is located at the Guodian Changyuan Jingzhou Combined Heat and Power Project is in Jingzhou City's high-technology development zone. Jingzhou, one of the largest load centers in Hubei Province, has been suffering from a power shortage, and the project could help to supply power and heat to the city, as well as improve its energy structure. The project's first unit is expected to be commissioned in June 2009, and the second will follow in September 2009.
