Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first bucket of concrete for Conventional Island 3 at China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) (Beijing) Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant was placed in East China's Fujian province on August 15, 2011, beginning construction on the project smoothly. CNNC announced on August 18 that there are now three conventional islands under construction at Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant.

The Fuqing Nuclear Power Project is in Qianxue Village, on the coast of central Fujian province. The project has a total planned capacity of six sets of nuclear power units of 1,000 megawatts each, with a total investment of nearly $14 billion. The project will be built in phases, with the adoption of the improved second generation of pressurized water reactor technology.

Fuqing Nuclear Power Company Limited (Fuqing, Fujian), a subsidiary of CNNC, which has a 49% investment from China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), served as the project owner. China Nuclear Engineering Construction Corporation (Beijing) is responsible for the construction and erection of the project.

Construction on Phase I of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Project began on November 21, 2008. On August 16, the deoxidizer, a critical piece of equipment in Conventional Island 1, was erected into its final position. On the same day, the combined testing team for units 1 and 2 also moved to the site. So far, erection of equipment in the nuclear island and testing is progressing smoothly. It's expected that the Unit 1 will begin operations in November 2013, and Unit 2 in September 2014. Construction of the Unit 3 began on December 31, 2010. According to the schedule, the unit will begin operations in July 2015. Foundation excavation began in June 2009 for Unit 4, which is expected to begin operations in May 2016.
