Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Incorporated (SEL) (Pullman, Washington) has begun construction on a $12 million plastics manufacturing plant in Lewiston, Idaho.
Construction started this month on a 105,800-square-foot building. The new plant will perform precision injection plastic manufacturing, which the company currently performs in Pullman, Washington.
The plastic will be used for enclosures for fiber optic transceivers, which are used in substations to make it possible for information to be sent over long distances efficiently. Overall completion of the new plant is expected by September. The plant is expected to employ 20 workers initially, but will grow as customer demand increases and other operations are added, including the manufacturing of circuit boards, protective relays and cables. In approximately three years, SEL expects that 250 people will be employed at the plant.
Bernardo-Willis Architects PC (Spokane, Washington) and Vandervert Construction Incorporated (Spokane) were selected to provide architectural and general construction services for the new plant.
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, founded in 1982, designs, manufactures, and supports products and services ranging from generator and transmission protection to distribution automation and control systems.
