Construction Set to Start on Wood Waste Power Plant in Alberta

Canadian Gas & Electric Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Hydro Developers, Incorporated (TSE:KHD) is ready to move forward with the construction phase of a 25 MW power plant in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The new power plant will utilize wood residue from a Canadian Forest (CANFOR) Products, Incorporated sawmill as its primary source of fuel. Last month, the company completed the financing phase of the project after securing agreements for all of the plants electrical output. Output from the plant will go to Canfor's operations, the city's heating district, and the remainder to the local grid.
This month, the company, along with the projects consultant Consultec Limited will release bid packages for the construction and startup phase of the project. Plans are to award a general contractor or a turn-key contractor. Construction is slated to begin this May and will continue with startup and commissioning scheduled for March 2004.
