Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- The cornerstone laying ceremony for Longyuan (Baotou) 200-Megawatt (MW) Wind Power Project was held at Damao Banner, Baotou City in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on August 15, 2007. General manager of China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation (Longyuan Group) (Beijing, China), Xie Changjun, among other leaders from related departments of Damao Banner, Baotou City and Inner Mongolia Region attended the ceremony.

Longyuan (Baotou) 200 MW Wind Power Project is a franchise project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and is jointly invested by Longyuan Group and Hero Asia BVI Company, Limited, with a total investment of $208 million and a total planned construction period of two years and seven months. All wind power units of the project will be adopted with 1,500-kilowatt (kW) wind power generating units produced by Goldwind Science and Technology Company, Limited (Xinjiang, China). Expected annual power output of the project will be 465.92 million kilowatt-hours upon completion. Compared with conventional thermal power plants, the project could save about 163,000 metric tons of standard coal, 1.342 million metric tons of water, and reduce the emission of 383,000 metric tons of CO2 every year. In addition to the obvious benefits in energy conservation and pollutant emission reduction, the project also has active functions in improving the local energy structure, increasing job opportunities and promoting the local economic development.

As the largest wind power investor and operator in China, Longyuan Group has attached importance to the wind power development in Inner Mongolia. Presently, Longyuan Group has four windfarms operated in Inner Mongolia, and several projects under construction or planning in the wind resource enriched Eastern and Western Inner Mongolia regions. Longyuan Group plans to further enhance its investment for wind power projects in Inner Mongolia and try to have the first 1,000 MW level wind power base completed in Inner Mongolia during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” (2006-2010).
