Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is awaiting final state environmental permit approval to begin construction of its proposed $20 million grassroot reactivated carbon plant to be built in Dequincy, Louisiana.
Calgon has selected Trimark Engineers/Constructors Incorporated (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) as the engineer for the project. Civil site construction services have also been secured while mechanical and electrical bidding opportunities still exist. If permit approvals are received soon, construction could begin in September or October of this year.
"With the large number of petrochemical plants and petroleum refiners located in the Gulf Coast region using carbon for filtering wastewater and emission streams, this has to be a big market," commented Trey Hamblet, Chemical Group Manager with Industrialinfo.com. "We are currently tracking over 2,400 operational industrial process plants on the Gulf Coast and a large number of those plants could benefit from a local source to send spent carbon for reactivation."
Calgon studied sites for this project in several Gulf Coast states before selecting Louisiana and Industrialinfo.com first reported the project's location to its Project Database clients in August of 2001.
