Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Rapid growth for renewable energy generation, especially wind power, is sparking a number of new manufacturing projects to supply turbine blades and towers. One example is Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica SA (Minano Alava, Spain), the second largest wind turbine manufacturer worldwide, which has started construction on a $40 million wind turbine blade manufacturing plant in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania.

Located on 22 acres, construction on the 184,000-square-foot plant began in July 2005 and will produce two types of rotor blades for wind turbine generators. The project is considered to be "fast-track," with both design and construction occurring simultaneously. Completion is slated for the end of the year and operation is expected to commence in the spring of 2006 and will employ approximately 500 people.

STV Group, Incorporated (Douglassville, Pennsylvania) was selected to provide architectural, environmental, engineering, and construction services for the fast-track project.

Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica SA was founded in 1976. Their two main divisions include its renewable energy division, which makes wind turbines and operates wind farms and their aeronautics division, which builds airplane structures and components for airplane and helicopter manufacturers. Gamesa currently has locations in Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Dominican Republic, UK, and the USA. Gamesa Wind US, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, carries out the manufacturing, sale, installation, and operation of maintenance for Gamesa’s wind turbines in the United States and Canada. In 2003, the company’s net income was $142.4 million with 6,164 employees.
