Contractor Awarded for $70 Million Distribution Center in South Carolina

A design-build contractor has been awarded to build a $70 million retail distribution center in Union, South Carolina for Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG) (Goodlettsville, Tennessee), a Fortune 500 discount retail Company (Plant 1062902, PEC 16001366).

Located in Union County on a 177-acre site on South Carolina Highway 9, construction on the proposed 1.1 million square-foot facility is anticipated for June 2004 with completion slated for June 2005. Approximately 600 jobs will be created.

James N Gray Company headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky was awarded the Design-Build contract for the new distribution center.

Dollar General Corporation, headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, operates more than 6,700 stores in 29 states located in the southern and eastern United States and the Midwest and includes over 57,000 employees. Currently, the company has seven distribution centers in Alachua, Florida (Plant 1038911, PEC 05001658); Scottsville, Kentucky; Indianola, Mississippi; Fulton, Missouri; Zanesville, Ohio (Plant 1041680); Ardmore, Oklahoma; and South Boston, Virginia. Construction is currently underway at the Company's South Boston, Virginia and Ardmore, Oklahoma distribution centers. Dollar General offers basic household items such as cleaning supplies and health and beauty aids, as well as some apparel and food. The stores are geared to target low, middle and fixed-income customers. At the end of the fiscal year in January 2004, sales exceeded $6.9 billion.
