Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Conlan Company (Marietta, Georgia) was selected to provide general construction services for a planned $50 million regional distribution center for TBC Corporation (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida), one of the largest marketers of automotive replacement tires. The facility will be constructed in Charleston, South Carolina.
Plans are to construct a 1.1 million-square-foot distribution center on a 400-acre site that would support the company's regional distribution operations. The new center will include truck bays, storage space, sorting areas, offices and meeting rooms. Construction is anticipated to begin next month, with completion expected by the end of the year.
Rockefeller Group Development Corporation (Mount Olive, New Jersey) was selected as the developer for the new center. M&H Architects (St. Louis, Missouri) was selected to provide architectural services.
TBC Corporation, founded in 1956, is considered the nation's largest marketer of tires for the automotive industry, operating more than 730 stores under the Tire Kingdom, Merchant's Tire & Auto Centers, and National Tire & Battery names. In 2005, the company was purchased by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA), the largest subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, thus ending the company's 22 year stint as a publicly traded company.
