Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A consortium formed of China Power Construction Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing) and Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute (Wuhan), two subsidiaries of China Power Engineering Consultants Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), received the notice-of-bid award issued by Shanghai CNTC Tendering Company Limited (Shanghai), the authorized tendering agent of the Ma'anshan Power Plant 1,200-megawatt (MW) expansion project recently. The consortium was confirmed as the winner in the bidding for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, the CPECC announced on February 16, 2009.

The contractor is responsible for construction of the plant, which has two 660-MW coal-fired units, from preliminary design to the end of the warranty period, including but not limited to investigation and design (geological survey, preliminary design, construction drawing design, complete drawing design), equipment and material procurement, transportation, storage, construction, commissioning, technical service, personnel training, testing, and after-sales service.

The Ma'anshan Power Plant is located in Ma'anshan City in central China's Anhui province. The project is to be funded by Wenergy Ma'anshan Power Generation Company Limited (Ma'anshan), a company jointly established by Anhui Wenergy Company Limited (SHE:000543) (Hefei) (51%) and Huainan Coal Mining (Group) Corporation Limited (Huainan, Anhui) (49%). On January 3, 2008, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to start pre-stage preparation. The project will be replacing smaller, inefficient power-generating units with larger, more efficient units. The support documents required for the final approval of the project are ready, and the application for final approval was submitted to the NDRC at the beginning of January 2009.
