TOP NEWS
U.S. Energy Exports: U.S. Becoming a World Player in Crude, LNG and NGL Markets - Last week marked the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker ship to be loaded and exported from the Sabine Pass LNG liquefaction facility owned and operated by Cheniere Energy Incorporated (NYSE:LNG) (Houston, Texas). At the end of December, the U.S. shipped its first tanker of crude oil overseas alongside the legacy liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas liquids (NGL) exports that make their way from American shores. Does this mean that the U.S. is energy independent, no longer buying crude oil from OPEC? No, it does not. However, what this does mean is that a new hydrocarbon energy source has entered the world stage, competing with established sources and allowing consumers more choice in their energy supply.
PIPELINES
Cuomo Seeks Halt to Spectra Energy Pipeline - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is seeking to delay work on Spectra Energy Corporation's (NYSE:SE) (Houston, Texas) Algonquin natural gas pipeline that runs near the Indian Point nuclear reactor until a safety analysis is completed.
COAL
Consol to Sell Coal Assets - Consol Energy (NYSE:CNX) (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania) says it will sell coal assets including its Buchanan mine in southwestern Virginia and other metallurgical coal reserves for about $420 million.
EARNINGS REPORTS
PEMEX's Loss Grows - Mexico's state-run oil company Pemex (Mexico City) reported a fourth-quarter loss $9.8 billion, a 44% widening from the company's loss from the same period in 2014.
NRG Reports $6.4 Billion Loss - NRG Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey) reported a $6.4 billion loss in fourth-quarter 2015, compared to profit of $97 million from the same time a year earlier. The loss was primarily due to writedowns, including those for two Texas coal-fired plants.
