Delphi Expands Lincoln County, Mississippi, Facility

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated, Houston,Texas) Delphi Packard Electric Systems (Warren, Ohio), a division of Delphi Corporation (NYSE:DPH) (Troy, Michigan) began a $10 million expansion in April on its Brookhaven, Mississippi manufacturing facility. Completion is scheduled for August. The 3750 square foot (75'x50') expansion will house extra power in the form of a new substation, mechanical support, and chilled water to supply manufacturing operations.

Most of the $10 million expense will go for the thirty (30) liquid silicone injection molding machines from Germany that are expected to arrive today (May 29). This equipment will be used for Delphi's new products: cable seals, connector seals, and related parts. The new injection molding equipment will allow Delphi to reduce the number of molding presses they use for manufacturing connectors from 120 to 90. They also have 28 molding presses used to manufacture Delphi's proprietary bussed electrical centers (BEC's), which the company makes for the GM C-series and other large trucks. The BEC is Delphi Packard Electric's technology for managing the electrical content in cars and trucks.

Fountain Construction (Jackson, Mississippi) is general contractor for the expansion. Fountain also is presently under contract for plant and equipment maintenance for the Brookhaven plant.
