Dominion Energy Completes $175 Million Preventative Action on Virginia Nuclear Units

Dominion Energy, the electric generating division of Dominion (NYSE:D)(Richmond, Virginia), is completing the installation of the last crack-resistant reactor head on the second reactor (Surry Unit 2) at the Surry Nuclear Station (Plant 1013047) located in Surry, Virginia. The installation is being carried out as part of a preventative action to improve sustained performance of the units. Cracked reactor heads have been a problem plaguing nuclear stations in the United States for the last couple of years. By performing proactive preventative maintenance, Dominion improves the reliability of the units.

During the second quarter of 2003, Dominion replaced its 850 MW Westinghouse PWR unit 1 with a Framatome ANP head and unit 2 is just being completed utilizing a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan) reactor head.

Also, during the first half of 2003, the company replaced the reactor heads on Westinghouse (W) Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) with Framatome ANP (France) heads at its two 940 MW power units at the North Anna Nuclear Station located in Mineral, Virginia (Plant 0102852). Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and suppliers of energy. Dominion's has nearly 24,000 MW (regulated & non-regulated) of electric power transmitted over 6,000 miles of transmission lines, 5.7 trillion cubic feet equivalent of natural gas reserves, 7,700 miles of natural gas pipeline and the nation's largest natural gas storage system with more than 960 billion cubic feet of storage capacity.
