Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Dominion (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) completed the acquisition of Brayton Point Power Station (Somerset, Massachusetts) on January 1, 2005, from USGen New England, a subsidiary of bankrupt National Energy and Gas Transmission (NEGT) (Bethesda, Maryland), and is now starting to complete NOx (nitrogen oxide) reduction projects on units #1 and #3 by installing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units.
The SCR system should reduce NOx emissions by 85%. The system is about 200 feet high (20 stories) and has a ceramic grid coated with catalysts and uses an ammonia injection system to reduce NOx. This reduction is achieved as combustion off gases and ammonia are combined and passed through a catalytic reaction process. The end process of this reaction produces nitrogen gas and water, which can be released safely to the atmosphere.
