Dongfang Electric Signs Major Equipment-Supply Contracts for Two Coal-Fired Power Plants in India

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Three major subsidiaries of Dongfang Electric Company Limited (SSE:600875) (Deyang, Sichuan), the flagship company of Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan), have signed major equipment-supply contracts for two coal-fired power plants in India. The subsidiaries, Dongfang Boilers Group Company Limited (DBC) (Deyang), Dongfang Steam Turbine Works (Deyang) and Dongfang Electric Machinery Company Limited (Deyang), signed the contracts with an engineering division of Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (Jinan), a fully owned subsidiary of Shandong Electric Power Group (Jinan).

According to the contracts, Dongfang Electric will supply boilers, turbines and generators for three 660-megawatt (MW) supercritical coal-fired units at the Sterlite Power Plant, and turbines and generators for three 660-MW supercritical coal-fired units at the Jharsuguda Power Plant in India.

On May 31, Shandong Electric was selected as the general contractor with Sterlite Energy Limited (India) through international competitive bidding. This contract will cover the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of two coal-fired power plants in India that will each have three 660-MW supercritical units. The contract was taken into effect immediately. Construction on the units is expected to last a little over three years.
