Eka Chemicals Starts-up New Silica Plant in Wisconsin

Eka Chemicals Incorporated (Marietta, Georgia), a subsidiary of Akzo Nobel NV (The Netherlands), has completed construction of its grassroot colloidal silica plant in Green Bay, Wisconsin and began commercial operation in May.

Bayland Buildings Incorporated (Green Bay, Wisconsin) served as the general contractor and construction for the $13 million approximately 63,000 square foot plant began in the fall of 2001. The plant is expected to employ approximately 10 people and produce colloidal silica (silica sol) for use in the paper industry as well as films, coatings and other industrial manufacturing processes.
